From The Scrape

Do you get excited watching deer interact with scrapes? I do! Regardless of the time of year, I love observing how deer communicate at my mock scrapes. Each year, I learn more from their unique interactions and the way they use their glands to communicate. Join me, and let's explore together, From the Scrape.

Easy Rope Scrapes

I have been using rope scrapes for many years, but this year I discovered a new system from Buckstik called the BuckRope. If you’re new to creating mock scrapes and are looking for a simple product, the BuckRope is an ideal choice. I set up the BuckRope on the afternoon of July 5th, and it didn’t take long for the bucks to find it. Location is crucial for a successful mock scrape, and I have hung this BuckRope at an inside corner of a bean field and added some Head-Scratcher Gland Lure. It’s already helping me build my Hit List.

Building The Hit List

The BuckRope is helping me keep track of the bucks on the properties where I hunt. After only three days of monitoring the new BuckRope I hung, my SpyPoint Flex Dark captured images of some Hit List bucks. One of them is named Mr. Scratch. Take a look at the unique left side of his rack. Mr. Scratch is an interesting buck and has made it onto my hit list.

The New 8

I love it when new bucks arrive on the property. The New 8 came in and worked the BuckRope to leave his individual scent on it. Notice how he takes the time to smell the scent left behind by other bucks that have already used the rope. He lightly touches the BuckRope with his preorbital gland to deposit his scent. With plenty of time for his velvet to grow, I have added him to my hit list.

TT8

TT8 is a buck I passed on during last year’s archery season. At that time, he was a tall, impressive 8-point with a lot of potential. After the season ended, I captured pictures of him, and I couldn't wait to see how he evolved this year. TT8 discovered the BuckRope and decided to investigate it. Just look at those brow tines! TT8 is going to be a special buck this year and is a top contender on my Hit List.
