First, Ever Hempwood Recurve Bow

Greg Wilson holds the patent for hempwood, a unique substance formed from the waste of the hemp plant. Farmers had a huge problem disposing of hemp waste, so Wilson created a means of transforming it into wood for various projects. He grew up in the small town of Hagerstown, Maryland, among a family of bowhunters and tournament archers, so he is extra excited about this new bow.  Marc Lauver is a senior custom bowyer from Pennsylvania who created this masterpiece.  Below is a letter to Wilson explaining the specs of this unique project.

About the Bow

The bow, other than hempwood, is dymaLux made byCousineau Wood Products.  The limb core wood is action-boosted with a thin strip of stabil-core (a woven carbon) to help stabilize the limb. The bottom limb information is – 58″ bow, 45# at 28″ drawweight, the PAW is for Penn Archery Works, and 0425 is the date finished and the s/n.  McKean is the model name.  I name the different models after counties in PA—the finish on the bow is a two-part urethane.  The string is made of 16 strands of Fast Flight Plus.  When you string any bow, USE a bow stringer.  Step-through can twist limbs, and push and pull can end up hurting.  The arrow should nock 1/8th” above the square with the shelf.

Enjoy, Marc.
