Vera Koo: Family Vacations

If you follow Vera Koo's social media, you know she spends a lot of time traveling to unique places. Many of these trips involve only one or two travel companions, but sometimes her entire family is involved. Vera recaps some of the highlights of her family vacations in the following three articles.

Vera Koo The Most Unlikely Champion is the story of a petite Chinese-American woman, wife, mother and grandmother and her run to the top as a world title holder in the sport of Action Pistol Shooting.

Vera Koo's Family Vacations

Camping on Moutcha Bay

When Vera and her family (12 people total) took a summer trip to Moutcha Bay Resort in Nootka Sound, British Columbia, it was anything but boring.

"Although our trip involved a lot of travel, it was relaxing. No one was rushing. We had no deadlines. This is an unusual concept after my detail-oriented shooting career. I enjoyed it."

In her article, "Camping on Moutcha Bay," Vera shares the fun adventures she had on this family vacation from high tea to salmon fishing and even some camping.

House Boating on Lake Mead

A ski boat remained in storage for over 30 years until Vera's youngest daughter suggested a houseboat trip on Lake Mead.

"Recently, I looked at a photo from the trip and considered how blessed Carlos and I are to gather our whole family and enjoy each other's company. I feel a special reward as I see the love for family and for the outdoors passed down from our children to our grandchildren."

After a recent relocation of two of Vera's children, a family trip was a welcome reminder of how well they all work together. Vera recounts past trips when her children were young, family dinners and their fun on the water in "Houseboating on Lake Mead."

Kayaking in Hawaii

Not all family vacations run as smoothly as others. While on a family vacation in Hawaii, what should have been a lovely kayaking excursion turned into absolute chaos.

"We had a brush with danger during our trip, but surviving the worst buoyed our desire to try again. At our age, it is so important to have challenges to keep our body and mind sharp."

Vera, Carlos, her children and two granddaughters were kayaking to the Mokulua Islands, about one mile off the shore when high winds stirred up the water. The group was serrated when boats capsized and they lost sight of each other. In "Kayaking Excursion Unravels Into Chaos," Vera's raw memories of this trip will better prepare you for your kayaking adventure and help you see how difficult situations make you stronger.
