Bible sales rise as faith grows nationally, according to local pastor

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — A Lexington church is experiencing a major spike in faith and attendance, reflecting a trend seen both locally and across the nation, according to a local pastor.

At Immanuel Baptist Church, Lead Pastor Ron Edmondson says the increase can be seen in several areas, including attendance and baptisms.

“Every week there’s just tons of new visitors coming,” Edmondson told ABC 36. “We’re also seeing an increase in baptisms. We’ve had record baptisms the last couple of years, just more people—a lot of college students,” said Edmondson.

Edmondson noted the trend is part of a larger, national movement.

“Seems like there’s more interest now,” he said, “we’re seeing movements around the nation like Unite Us, that’s coming to Lexington in February. Bible sales have been 22%, some reports of 24% up,” said Edmondson.

The pastor attributed part of the growth to an increase in anxiety and fear among communities.

“I think there’s just this kind of pent-up anxiety and fear among our people, among communities, even in the world,” Edmondson said.

While Christmas is only a week away, Edmondson said the holiday season often brings mixed emotions. The season can bring joy for some, but it can also be a difficult time for others, potentially driving them to seek faith.
