Kentucky Congressman Thomas Massie votes "no" on GOP budget proposal

WASHINGTON, D.C. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Kentucky Congressman Thomas Massie was the lone Republican to vote against a GOP-led budget proposal that narrowly passed in the House of Representatives on Tuesday night.

The Republican-controlled House approved the budget blueprint 217-215, with no support from Democrats. The measure is intended to advance President Donald Trump’s policy agenda.

Massie defended his opposition in a social media post, stating in part, “The GOP budget increases the deficit by over $300 billion a year, and in ten years, will add $20 trillion to the U.S. debt.”

The legislation now moves to House committees before heading to the Senate for consideration.
