AllOutdoor Review: Skratch Labs-Hydration Sports Drink

I've seen hydration supplements explode in popularity over the years, and it takes me back to my time in the Army Infantry. Back then, hydration wasn't just encouraged—it was regimented. Research showed that without proper hydration, a combat athlete couldn't perform, and the same is true whether you're competing, hunting, or grinding through a physically demanding job. That's why I was interested in putting Skratch Labs Unsweetened Hydration Sports Drink to the test. In this review, I'll share my thoughts on how it stacks up for real-world performance.

A Word from Skratch Labs on their Unsweetened Hydration Sports Drink

Boulder, Colorado – August 26, 2025 – Skratch Labs reintroduces its Everyday Drink Mix under a new name – Unsweetened Sport Drink Mix. Each serving of the unchanged formula provides 400mg of sodium from sodium citrate and offers athletes a sugar-free, unsweetened option for times when they don't need fuel in their bottle or simply prefer a lighter taste. Unsweetened Sport Drink Mix is available in Lemon + Lime and Salted Margarita, the latter returning to the permanent lineup by popular demand after debuting as a limited seasonal flavor. Both flavors will be sold in 20-stick caddies and 30-serving pouches.

"Hydration is personal because every athlete loses a different amount of sodium in their sweat," says Dr. Allen Lim, founder and sport physiologist at Skratch Labs. "By listening to athletes, studying the science, and testing prototypes at some of the biggest events in the world, we recognized the need for more flexible, customizable, and practical hydration options. With Electrolyte Booster, athletes can add more sodium when conditions demand it without extra flavor, sugar, or calories. With Unsweetened Hydration Sport Drink Mix, they get light, real-fruit flavor and sugar-free electrolytes for times when they don't need fuel. Together with our original Sport Drink Mix and Super High-Carb Drink Mix, these products complete a hydration system designed to work for real athletes in the real world."

Performance in the Field: Skratch Labs – Unsweetened Hydration Sports Drink

I was eager to try Skratch Labs Unsweetened Hydration Sports Drink because of its claim of being easier on the stomach. With Crohn's, most supplements don't sit well with me, so this felt like a real test. I also had the Tactical Games Ohio Regional coming up—two days, eight grueling events combining fitness and shooting—which made the perfect proving ground for any hydration supplement.

Before the competition, I spent a few months testing Skratch Labs during hard workouts. I always recommend trying new supplements ahead of time—whether you're competing, training, or hunting—because you never know how your gut will respond. I started mixing it in a blender bottle after tough training sessions, and it dissolved easily. Compared to other hydration supplements I've tried, Skratch Labs doesn’t leave a chalky residue. The lemon-lime flavor was light and refreshing, more like infused water than a sugary sports drink, and it never upset my stomach, even when consumed on back-to-back training days.

At the Ohio Regional, the real test came on day two when temps climbed into the upper 80s and the sun was beating down. After pushing the pace during a couple of events, I started to get a headache from dehydration. Skratch Labs knocked it out quickly, keeping me hydrated and steady across both days. Compared to a previous Regional where I struggled more, my performance this time felt noticeably stronger. The mild flavor made it easy to drink between events. Overall, the supplement delivered exactly what I needed for endurance and recovery.

Final Thoughts

Overall, my thoughts on Skratch Labs Unsweetened Hydration Sports Drink in lemon-lime? It's quickly become one of my favorite hydration supplements. The light, refreshing flavor isn't a salt bomb like many other sports drinks; it mixes easily in water or a blender bottle, and it doesn't upset my stomach—even on long training days or back-to-back events. Most importantly, it helps me stay hydrated, avoid cramps, and maintain peak performance during physically demanding activities. I also love the clean label and quality ingredients—nothing artificial—which makes it a smart choice for anyone serious about health and performance. For me, this supplement earns a solid 5 out of 5.

This drink is perfect for athletes, Tactical Games competitors, hunters trekking through the backcountry, or anyone with a physically demanding lifestyle. It's also ideal for people with sensitive stomachs who struggle with traditional sports drinks or electrolyte powders. Whether you're looking for a hydration supplement to support intense workouts, long hunting trips, or even just to stay properly hydrated throughout the day, Skratch Labs Unsweetened Hydration Sports Drink delivers consistent results without being overly sweet or hard to drink.

A big thank you to Skratch Labs for giving AllOutdoor and me the opportunity to try their Unsweetened Hydration Sports Drink. It's always appreciated to test a product that lives up to its claims.
