Former Kentucky and N.B.A. star announces retirement

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Former Kentucky basketball star John Wall has announced his retirement.

Wall played one season at UK, leading the Wildcats to the Elite Eight in 2010 under coach John Calipari before being selected No. 1 overall in the NBA Draft. He went on to play 11 seasons with the Washington Wizards, Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers.

Wall said he’s stepping away from the court but not the game, adding that basketball will always be part of his life as he looks ahead to future opportunities.
