Retired Lexington Police officer passes away

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — The Lexington Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its former officers.

According to his obituary, 56-year-old Jeff Cornett passed away Tuesday in Knoxville, Tennessee. Cornett retired from the Lexington Police Department in 2018.

Before his time in Lexington, Cornett also served with the Somerset Police Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department.

A celebration of life funeral service is scheduled for Sunday at Cumberland Missionary Baptist Church in Harlan County.
